New Moon Ritual: Manifesting Positive Influences

By Veronika Brown

This ritual is a personal journey that manifests positive influences and keeps track of your unique monthly goals and achievements. The first half is dedicated to cleansing the self and giving self-care tailored to your needs. The second half is a simple ritual to manifest your positive desires, guided by your own intentions. Journaling is a personal reflection in both halves. There is no time limit for journaling; write until no more comes out. Click here for info on how to journal for this ritual.

Body Cleanse Items:

  • Journal/Pen

  • Bathtub/shower

  • Salt scrub. (This cleanses your aura/energy field before the setup. See Cleansing Salt Scrub for a recipe and instructions on using your scrub.)

  • Optional items to enhance the experience:

  • Candles

  • Music

  • Hot tea

  • Incense or Essential oils

Items needed for the altar:

  • Altar space

  • Smudge stick

  • Paper

  • Pen/pencil

  • Bowl of cleansed water. (Holy water, Florida water, or purified tap water. Add a few herbs or essential oils to the water during set up or after to help boost the outcome. (Represents Water Element)

  • Incense. (Represents Air Element)

  • Black or white candle of any size (Black is to represent the New Moon; however, white is universal and can represent any color.) (Also Represents Fire Element)

  • Salt, dirt, or sand. (Represents Earth Element)|

  • Herbs represent your intentions. (Use Google or break out a magical herbs book, such as this, for information on the magical properties of the herbs you need to use.)

  • Optional items to enhance the experience:

  • Miscellaneous tools you would like to add. (Athame, wand, mandalas, gemstones, statues, tarot cards. etc.)

  • Any decorations you'd like. (i.e., self-created herbal/stone mandala, altar cloth, extra candles, and twinkle lights). The sky is the limit. Decorate in a way that makes you happy)

  • Tea or Moon Milk (Use it as a nice cap for the night. See Moon Milk for the recipe.)

1) Start by setting up your bath/shower area as you desire. After you finish setting up, call in any angels and/or protective deities you work with. (I call in Archangel Michael and Hekate. I have friends who call in angels and Jesus. Do what makes you comfortable. Remember, this is your personal ritual, and you have the freedom to adapt it to your beliefs and practices.)

2) Take a few deep breaths and ground yourself in the present moment. If you prefer, go outside and enjoy nature for a few minutes to ground yourself.

3) Grab your salt scrub, sit with it, and visualize a glow emitting from the container, filling it with cleansing energy. Some people like to imagine a bluish, white, or golden glow. Choose what color represents cleansing to you. Visualize this same light later when you scrub with this salt. It will strip away all the negative energies stuck to you. When you feel content with the energy you have put into your scrub, get in your bath. If you are taking a bath, write down your goals/manifestations in your journal at this time. Otherwise, set aside time after your cleanse to write in your journal.

4) Depending on your preference, you can scrub first and then bathe as usual or vice versa. When you scrub, imagine all the negative energies washing away from your aura and down the drain, never to be seen again. Once you have finished your cleanse, step out of the bath, dress comfortably, and prepare to journal.

5) Write in a journal until you finish writing everything you want. If you have previous entries, write about what you accomplished last month.

6) Time to set up the altar and get to the manifesting!

Altar Setup and Ritual

1) Assemble and decorate your altar in a way that resonates with you. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to decorate. The setup is preferably outside, so the sky is visible, but this is not a strict requirement. The key is creating a sacred space that aligns with your spiritual journey.

2) Begin cleansing. Light up your smudge stick, cleanse yourself first, then your surrounding area and the altar space itself.

3) This is a great time to cast a magic circle. It is not necessary, but it can magnify your intentions. Feel free to call upon any deities, ancestors, or angels you would like support from. See How to Cast a Magic Circle if you want to cast a circle.

5) Light those candles and invoke the energy of the element of fire by placing your hands around the candle/flame (don't burn yourself) and say,

"I invoke the power of the element of fire,

to aid in manifesting my desires."

5a) Repeat this same process for the items you have associated with the other elements: air, earth, and water.

6) If you still need to, write down the summary of what you are manifesting. When you are ready, vocalize your intentions and goals for the new month.

7) Fold up your paper and wave it in the incense smoke, allowing it to envelop the paper. Visualize the element of air infusing with your intentions.

8) Place your paper inside your salt or dirt and visualize the element of earth infusing with your intentions.

9) Move on to the flame and hold your paper above it without lighting it on fire. Visualize the flame's heat infusing your intentions with the element of fire.

10) Finally, put it in your cleansed bowl of water. Visualize the water, cleansing your intentions and infusing them with the element of water.

11) Conclude your ritual by meditating (See How to Meditate for Beginners if you need help.) for at least 10 minutes and then journal your experience. You can begin the end of your ritual after you meditate, take it a step further, cast a spell that mirrors your intentions, or create a satchel/pouch to carry around. If you make a satchel, place it on your daily altar or put it in your car. If you like, now is a great time to do some divination.

12) Thank the elements and any deities, angels, or ancestors you called for their assistance. If you cast a circle, close it. You may either let your candles* burn out entirely or snuff them out to reuse for another ritual. Give the herbs and water back to the earth with your intentions paper still in it. If you are able, bury or place it in a garden or plant it. If you so desire, finish by relaxing outside with a nice cup of tea or moon milk while journaling about how you felt during and after the ritual.

*Whether you are outdoors or indoors, do NOT leave candles unattended.
