Magic Circles

A magic circle is used when you want to amplify your work, add extra protection against astral nasties, enhance healing, etc. How you word your casting depends on what kind of ritual or spell you perform within the circle. Below is a standard template that may be reworded to fit your needs.  

Magic Circle is adapted from Silver Ravenwolf's book, Solitary Witch.

Items needed:

• Altar and everything you need for whatever work you are about to do. 

• Smudge stick (for cleansing)

• Wand, athame, stick, or finger (to cast down your circle)

• Optional: Items to make a physical circle if you desire. (salt, rocks, flowers, etc.)

** Before beginning, ensure you have everything you need for the work you are about to do. While it can be done, leaving the circle should be done as little as possible, if not at all, because it weakens the circle each time you do so. 

** To leave the circle, make a "cut" at the border with your hand and move it aside as if you were opening curtains. Close it back up with your hand when you step out. Repeat the process to get back in. 

1. If you are creating a physical circle, do so now.

2. Smudge yourself, your altar, and the area you are working in.

3. With a wand, athame, or your finger, we begin to cast the circle in the cardinal direction of North. Point your tool down at the ground as you walk clockwise (deosil), and say:

I conjure thee, the great circle of power (the word "power" is a general term and can be substituted for the words healing, abundance, love, etc.)

So that you will be the boundary between the worlds.

I call upon the guardians of the North, east, south,

and west to aid me in constructing this circle.

In a place of perfect love, trust, peace, and joy,

contain the power I raise within.

The circle is sealed.

So mote it be.

To remove the circle, start north and walk counterclockwise (widdershins) as you say: 

Great circle of power (Don't forget your word substitution if you did one),

I thank you for your aid and release you. 

Guardians of the North, east, south, and west,

I thank you for your assistance and release you. 

May you leave in perfect love, trust, peace, and joy.

The circle is removed but never broken.

So mote it be.
